CLEANING Before first use, disassemble the nurser (5 parts) and sterilize in rapidly boiling water for five minutes. The Breastbottle nurser can also be autoclaved (we recommend the "plastics" setting), or used in a microwave or steam sterilizer. From then on, consult your health provider for proper cleaning. For example, if your water quality is questionable, or if your baby is prone to infection, sterilization may be necessary for each use. In general, wash the bottle in warm soapy water and rinse well. The Breastbottle nurser is dishwasher safe in the top rack (remove the blue valve disc for cleaning). The silicone dome can be turned inside-out to clean inside the nipple. Remember to clean around the nub inside the center of the cover. IMPORTANT: After cleaning, dry the blue valve disc and its area on the lid, and re-install as shown below. Please note that the wide part of the disc is against the lid's base. Then turn it slightly to properly seat it on its retainer post. If it is installed improperly the bottle will leak.

ASSEMBLY AFTER CLEANING Be sure to assemble with clean hands.
|
|
1. Drop the silicone dome straight into the white ring, insuring the lip of the dome is properly seated in the channel of the white ring.
2. Then align the teeth of the white ring onto the cover and snap into place. Be sure the tip of the dome is seated in the nub inside the cover to prevent leakage. Pour contents into the dome.
|
| |
3. Hold the cover and screw the lid on securely (clockwise). Be sure the nipple of the dome is properly seated on the nub inside of the cover.
|
| |
4. For transport, be sure to squeeze the cover and lid together so it closes with a click. Store the bottle with the nipple side down.

FLOW RATE The Breastbottle nurser comes to you with only 1 of 3 holes open in the nipple. A slow flow rate is recommended to simulate breastfeeding, especially when switching between breast and bottle. If your baby seems frustrated while feeding, or is taking longer than 15-20 minutes per feeding, you may want to increase flow rate, often at about 3 and 6 months of age however, each baby is different. Test flow with your baby before opening additional ducts to see if it is necessary. Be sure the open duct is clear. Once additional holes are opened, you cannot reverse the process. TO INCREASE FLOW Turn the dome and nipple inside out and use sterile nail clippers to fully clip off a second or third nub cleanly at the base, as necessary. Please consult your medical professional if you are in doubt about the amount of nourishment your baby is receiving.

STORING MILK Breastbottle nursers can be used to store breast milk or formula in your refrigerator. Freezer storage is not recommended, as some leakage may occur upon thawing. If it is necessary, freeze the closed container with the cover on and the nipple facing down. Follow La Leche League, or other reliable guidelines, for breastmilk handling and storage. WARMING Warm contents separately in a pan, or immerse the filled Breastbottle in hot water away from the heat source. Microwave warming is not recommended and can harm breast milk and formula, particularly if it is over-heated. If you must use a microwave, remove the lid and warm the contents gradually. Stir when warm. Never serve contents above body temperature of 98° F or 36.6° C!

FEEDING If you are introducing a bottle to your baby for the first time, or if your baby has refused to accept other bottles, please visit our special page offering many helpful hints for introducing a bottle. A good feeding position imitates breastfeeding. Cradle your baby in a semi-upright position with the head well supported, make eye contact and comforting sounds. Caution: Leaving an infant to feed alone with any bottle is unnatural, unsafe, and may result in tooth decay, ear infections, or death from choking. "Letdown" (a temporary increase of flow from the breastfeeding mother) is imitated if the dome is squeezed firmly. Be very careful not to overdo it, as an infant can choke. As contents are withdrawn, be sure to keep fluid in the nipple. When the dome is nearly empty, be sure to keep milk in the nipple tip which enables the baby to consume 100% of the contents. Feeding should always be supervised by a responsible adult.

The soft Breastbottle is designed to contact the baby's face for a comforting experience, much like natural breastfeeding. This is the major reason for the breast-like design. Similar to breastfeeding, Breastbottle nursers require patience, and there is a learning curve to easy practice. LEAKAGE Leakage will not typically be a problem once you are accustomed to our bottle. Because the Breastbottle nurser is designed to have a similar flow rate to that of a lactating mother, it is normal for the bottle to drip approximately one drop per second when inverted. If you experience leakage with your Breastbottle nurser, please check the following: - The blue valve disc must be correctly installed on the white post inside the lid for a proper seal. Position the wide part of the valve in the indented area in the base of the lid, and give it a gentle turn on the post to properly seat it.
- Be sure the lip of the silicone dome is correctly installed and not inside-out and fully seated in the channel of the white ring.
- Before filling and transporting, be sure the tip of the dome is seated on the nub inside the cover and that the cover is snapped tight.
- Screw the lid on securely. The cover has been designed as an aid to help tighten and loosen the lid.
- Turn the bottle upright before removing the cover.
CAUTION Some possibility of tearing exists with all artificial nipples. For your child's safety, treat the domes with care. Check the dome regularly for tears, punctures or cracks. Pull hard on the nipple to test it. If you suspect deterioration, replace the dome immediately (order parts by emailing Kimberly in customer service at info@todaysbabies.com). Inspect the domes regularly, especially if your baby is teething. Adiri and todaysbabies.com wishes you and your baby good health, happiness, comfort, and convenience using our products!
